Former Ohio State football player's season might be over before it starts
By Ryan Stano
While the college football season is right around the corner, so is the NFL season. It starts in just under a month. Because of that, teams around the league have started playing their first preseason games of the year. This includes former Ohio State football players around the league.
We saw two former Buckeyes take each other on Friday. More Buckeyes played on Saturday. Some of them are established in their roles on their respective teams while others are still fighting for roster spots. One former Buckeye actually got the start on Saturday because the normal starters were sitting out.
That former Buckeye is center Luke Wypler. Wypler was a sixth-round pick in 2023 by the Cleveland Browns. Wypler is the backup center in Cleveland and is still fighting to solidify his spot on the roster. Unfortunately, his season might be over before it even begins.
Former Ohio State football player is carted off the field
During the first preseason game for Wypler, the former Ohio State Buckeye injured his ankle. Unfortunately, the injury was so bad that it required his leg to be immobilized. He was carted off the field and it doesn't look like he's coming back anytime soon.
Unfortunately, it looks like Wypler's season might be over before it even begins. Whenever that air cast has to be put on, it's a bad sign. Usually, it means that a season-ending injury has just occurred. Hopefully, it's not as bad as it looks though and Wypler is able to come back.
If he isn't, Wypler might find himself out of a roster spot at the end of the year. The Browns are going to have to sign someone else to take his backup spot. If he practices well, Wypler could be on his way out of Cleveland. Hopefully, that doesn't happen.
