Former Ohio State football player C.J. Stroud wins Offensive Rookie of the Year
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State football program has been sending elite talent to the NFL for a long time now. No one has more first-round picks than the Buckeyes. One of those first round picks picked up an award last night during the NFL Honors, proving he should have been the first pick in last year's Draft.
That former Buckeye is C.J. Stroud. He won the Offensive Rookie of the Year award after a stellar campaign with the Houston Texans. He was the second overall pick in the 2023 Draft by Houston and showed that he is already a top-ten quarterback with his play.
Stroud had 4,108 yards passing, 23 touchdowns, and just 5 interceptions. He also completed 64% of his passes and ran for three touchdowns as well. He led the Texans to the playoffs in his first year, showing that Houston has a chance to be really good once they get some weapons around him.
In his speech, Stroud gave a huge shoutout to Ohio State. This is what he had to say while accepting the award:
""I want to thank Ohio State, Coach Day, Todd Fitch, and a ton of Buckeyes out here that gave me nothing but support and shown a young kid some love all the way 2,000 miles away from home""
- C.J. Stroud
If that isn't hanging in the Woody right now, it should be. That's about as big of a recruiting endorsement as you can get from a former player. Add that to the fact that Stroud is helping with NIL donations and he is really trying to make his college football program better.
I fully expect Stroud to continue to succeed in the NFL. He has all of the tools necessary to do so. Unfortunately, he's in the AFC South so I have to watch him torture my Colts for ten years.
