Former Ohio State football coach has a new job
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State football team had to make some moves with the coaching staff this offseason. Some of them were because some coaches decided to leave on their own accord. Some were let go by Ryan Day because they were not doing what was necessary to keep their jobs.
That was the case for Perry Eliano. Eliano was the safeties coach with the Ohio State football program for two seasons. That was all that Day needed to see in order to make a change, despite the fact that he was able recruit Sonny Styles and bring him to the program a year early.
Eliano was replaced by Matt Guerrieri as the safeties coach and was floating around without a job for a while. That changed on Thursday when it was announced that he was taking a job with the Akron Zips. He is now the corners coach for the Zips as he opts to stay in the state of Ohio.
Previous to joining the Buckeyes, Eliano had never had a Power 4 job. He has decided to go to the MAC, which is probably a good place for him. Eliano has recruiting ties to the state of Ohio, so it makes sense for him to take a G6 job in the state. It's probably were he has the best chance to be successful.
By all accounts, Eliano is a good guy. He just wasn't able to quite get the safeties to play at an elite level like Day thought he should be able to. Ohio State thinks that they will be better off in the long term with Guerrier than they would have been with Eliano.
We wish Eliano nothing but the best in his new role. He should be a good hire for Akron. I expect him to do well in the MAC.
