Expect a few Ohio State football players to enter the transfer portal
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State football team had their annual Spring Game on Saturday. It was a great game and it showed what the Buckeyes have to work on still. They also still have to figure out how their roster is going to be configured once the Fall rolls around. That starts on Monday.
That's because the transfer portal opens on Monday and several Ohio State football players are likely to enter their names in it. This has become the new cycle of college football. Once the Spring window opens, hundreds of college football players will enter the portal.
How many Buckeyes will enter the portal? That we don't know yet. We know that Dallan Hayden will be entering the portal. He decided to go after Tony Alford poorly managed the running back room before he decided to leave Ohio State for Michigan. His lack of playing time led him no choice but to leave.
There are bound to be others. Lincoln Kienholz has been rumored to be leaving. His poor performance in the Spring Game might expedite this. He was by far the worst-performing quarterback in what is already a crowded room. Someone is going to have to go.
I wouldn't be shocked to see a receiver leave. Kojo Antwi doesn't have a path to playing time anytime soon so I could see him deciding to enter the portal. That room is the most competitive of any room that the Buckeyes have on their roster. More than one receiver could leave.
Before the Spring Game, I thought Devin Brown had a chance to leave. But his performance thus far this Spring makes me believe he's going to stay and try to fight for the starting job. He's not out of it, but he still has an uphill battle for that coveted job.
There will be at least a handful of guys who decide to leave. There will also be some guys who Ryan Day decides he wants to bring in from other schools. The portal is a tool that Ohio State will not ignore.
