Chip Kelly has turned around the Ohio State football team's offensive line

One of the biggest things that the Ohio State football team needed to fix this season was their offensive line. They were hopeful that Chip Kelly could do that. He's done that and so much more.

The Ohio State football team needed to be better up front on the offensive line. Justin Frye has underperformed as the offensive line coach over the past few years. The season opener showed off those issues because against Akron, the offensive line was not getting the push in the run game.

Ryan Day brought in Chip Kelly as the offensive coordinator. Being Frye's former boss at UCLA, the hope was that Kelly could help fix the offensive line that Frye had failed to fix. Kelly has done that and more. In fact, there's a chance that he's done too good of a job.

The offensive line has helped the run game be one of the best in the country. Both Quinshon Judkins and TreVeyon Henderson have done a fantastic job of busting off big runs and getting into the end zone. The offensive line has done a great job opening up holed for those guys to bust through.

Chip Kelly has added so much value to the Ohio State football team

The offensive line has helped the run game do a great job. The backs average 6.6 yards per carry, which is fourth-best in the country. Ohio State also only has allowed 25 pressures in the passing game, which is the best in the country. They've also given up just three sacks. It's clear that the offensive line has improved with Kelly in charge of the offense.

Kelly's concepts within the ground game have allowed the offensive line to get downhill, get to the second level, and open up massive holes for these running backs. The pass protection has improved too with Kelly's influence. Will Howard has plenty of time to make decisions in the pocket.

Hopefully, this is something that can continue. The Buckeyes need this not to be an aberration against some bad teams. We're going to learn a lot about how good the offensive line can be this season when they take on Iowa on Saturday.
