The Ohio State football team is going to look different on offense this year. Chip Kelly was hired by Ryan Day to take over playcalling duties and to oversee the offense. Kelly moves from a head coaching role to an offensive coordinator role for the first time in decades.

Kelly made the move because he just wanted to be happy. He was tired of what the head coaching job had turned into. A head coaching job in major college football is dealing with the portal, NIL, and donors. There's not a lot of time left for coaching actual football.

Day is happier now too. He has his mentor and good friend running an offense that he's very familiar with. He can finally take the time to be a CEO-type of coach that should lead to greater success for the Ohio State football program at large. He also might be able to spend more time with his family now that he's not obsessing over the offense.

The Buckeyes are going to use this newfound happiness between these two coaches to help them succeed not just this season, but future ones as well. The offense is set up with weapons all over the field to reassert themselves as the dominant team in the Big Ten. Even in an expanded Big Ten.

Recruiting hasn't fallen off either. In fact, it's only gotten better. There's a very good chance that Ohio State will end up with the best recruiting class in the country by the time it's all over with. The 2025 recruiting class could end up being the best in school history.

It's critical that these two coaches stay in lockstep with each other. In the Spring, that looked fairly easy. We'll see how things become once actual games are played on the field against another opponent.
