C.J. Stroud tried to get top Georgia OL to join him with the Ohio State football team

The first round of the 2024 NFL Draft was on Thursday night. We saw Marvin Harrison Jr. be the fourth overall pick and the first Buckeye taken. It was a great night for all of the 32 young men who were drafted in the first round, including offensive lineman Amarius Mims.
Mims is a tackle from Georgia who got drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals with the 18th overall pick. He was one of the top offensive linemen available in the Draft. He won two national championships with the Bulldogs and obviously was good enough to be a first-round pick.
Former Buckeye C.J. Stroud recognized that talent. Speaking on a draft telecast, he actually mentioned that he tried to get Mims to transfer to the Ohio State football program during a brief period when he was in the transfer portal. Take a look at the clip below.
This would have to have been back in 2022 when Ohio State ended up playing Georgia in the Peach Bowl. Had Mims been on the Buckeyes that year, their offensive line would have been even better. He could have played opposite of Paris Johnson Jr., or even slid inside to guard alongside Dawand Jones.
Mims would have been more needed last season when both tackles for the Ohio State football team were bad. He may have made enough of a difference that the Buckeyes could have beaten Michigan and made the College Football Playoff. That's how bad the offensive line was at protecting Kyle McCord.
Obviously, Mims didn't take Stroud up on his offer and stayed at Georgia. The Buckeyes still might need some help on the offensive line, but the transfer portal is about to close. It seems like they won't be grabbing anyone this Spring.
Stroud is going to have a good team in Houston this year. Mims could have a good NFL career as well.
