A freshman wins Iron Buckeye for the first time in Ohio State football history
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State football team is preparing for the season ahead. In doing so, they have to figure out who is deserving of playing time based on the progress them made in the offseason. The Buckeyes certainly have a lot of talent on the offensive side of the ball.
That's especially true at the wide receiver position. One of the players who should get a lot of playing time is true freshman Jeremiah Smith. Smith is getting a ton of hype as a young player and that hype should only increase based on what he was able to accomplish this offseason.
According to current Buckeye Devin Brown, Smith became the first true freshman to ever win the Iron Buckeye. That means he was an absolute freak in the weight room and worked hard to make sure that his body is ready for the college game that he's about to step into.
The Ohio State football team is going to make sure that they get the ball to him as much as possible this Fall. Even though he won't be the top receiver right away, he very well could develop into that by the time next year rolls around. He's going to be a big issue for defenses to contend with.
Will Howard is going to be the guy who is getting him the ball. He talked about the fact that he just needs to get the ball to his best players and get out of the way. Howard knows he doesn't have to be a hero in this offense. He just has to make sure that the ball is protected.
Smith is a freak of nature and the rest of the Big Ten is about to learn just how much of a freak he is. Ohio State football fans are going to love watching him play.
