Last year, the Ohio State Buckeyes were able to get a commitment from DJ Jacobs. Jacobs is listed as the best edge player in the class of 2027. He gave his commitment to the Buckeyes back in December, and he has not wavered from his stance with Ohio State.
That hasn't stopped other programs from trying to flip him. Miami has been trying to get him since before he committed to Ohio State. Tennessee fans randomly thought they had a shot to flip him, even though that's not realistic. Now, another Big Ten team is trying to flip him.
Oregon Edge recruit Rashad Streets tries to get DJ Jacobs to flip from Ohio State
While on a visit to Eugene, Streets sent a message directly to Jacobs. He looked into a camera that was following him and told him to flip from Ohio State.
“Come to the O, bro. Don’t stay at Ohio State, that sh-- ass I ain’t gonna lie.”
Streets is a five-star edge recruit in his own right. He is trying to get the Ducks to bring in Jacobs to have them double up on great edge players. His issue is that Jacobs has never once looked like he is considering flipping, despite multiple other programs trying to entice him to do so.
Jacobs has made multiple visits to Columbus over the past year, including a surprise one. Does that seem like the behavior of someone who is going somewhere else? I don't think so. He has talked multiple times about how the coaching of Larry Johnson is a big reason why he wants to be in Columbus.
If Jacobs believes that Johnson can turn him into a first-round pick in the NFL, why would he go anywhere else? He can compete for national championships at Ohio State and still become one of the best draft prospects in the 2029 NFL draft thanks to Johnson.
Ohio State should not be concerned with DJ Jacobs flipping
Ryan Day and his coaching staff shouldn't worry too much about Jacobs flipping. Everything he has done since committing would indicate that he is going to be a Buckeye when Signing Day rolls around in December. That doesn't mean Day should be negligent, though.
In today's day and age of recruiting, coaches need to keep recruiting their guys, even after they have committed. NIL has changed the relationship between recruits and programs. Jacobs is being well compensated by the Buckeyes, though. That's one of the big reasons they didn't overpay for David Gabriel Georges.
Jacobs is bringing his entire family for three separate visits this Fall, so Day should feel great about where he is in his recruitment. It wouldn't make any sense for Jacobs to do that if he wasn't going to stay committed to the Ohio State football program.
A big win against Texas in Week 2 would further cement the fact that Jacobs is making the right choice in Ohio State. He wants to play in big games and win them, just like any other five-star recruit.
