The Ohio State football program had a massive victory over Grambling State, taking them down 70-0. It was a fantastic performance on both sides of the ball for the Buckeyes, but it was especially nice to see the offense play as well as they did after a slow performance against Texas.
Julian Sayin was able to open up the offense and chuck it all over the field. He set a record in the first half and finished the day 18/19 for 306 yards, four touchdowns, and one interception. He only missed one throw, and it was a late throw in the end zone that ended up being picked off.
Still, Sayin had a much better performance than Michigan's freshman quarterback. Bryce Underwood was horrendous in TTUN's loss to Oklahoma, falling in that game 24-13. Underwood was just 9/24 for 142 yards. He had some wildly inaccurate throws during the game, as well.
The Ohio State football program has the better quarterback than TTUN
Despite all of the hoopla around Underwood, he looks lost in the offense. Against a good opponent, he was not ready to actually make winning plays. That's in stark contrast to how Sayin played against Texas, as he threw a touchdown pass to Carnell Tate that ended up being the winning score.
People around the country seem to forget that Sayin was the number one quarterback in his recruiting class, the 2024 class. He was that highly ranked for a reason, so the Ohio State Buckeyes are happy to have them leading the offense. He looks ready for the moment.
Sayin's numbers would have been better against the Longhorns had he not had four drops in the first half from his guys. While this was just Grambling State, he put up far better numbers than Underwood did against New Mexico, and Sayin obviously performed better against a top team than Underwood did.
It's very early in both players' careers. It's very likely that both guys only get better from here on out as each of them gets more reps and plays in big games. Right now, Sayin is clearly the better talent with what he has shown through the first two games as a starter.
Underwood looks like a deer in headlights, and he was seen screaming at his teammates on the sidelines just two games into his career. Things look a lot better for the Buckeyes than they do for the Wolverines early on this season.
