The Ohio State football team is almost halfway through spring practice. They have had enough practices to start figuring out where guys will fit in once the Fall rolls around. With 51 new players on the roster, this is more of a true camp than it is spring practice. More guys are available than ever before.

There have already been a couple of guys who have lost their black stripe. The first two were transfer players, which is usually how it is. It usually takes freshmen a few practices to learn how to fit in with the program, and it takes them a while to shed that black stripe.

Ryan Day let everyone know on Tuesday that the Ohio State Buckeyes had their first freshman of the spring lose his stripe. It is actually a freshman wide receiver, but it's not five-star freshman Chris Henry Jr. It's actually another receiver who has started to get some serious hype.

Ohio State WR Brock Boyd loses his black stripe

Brock Boyd has become the first freshman to shed his black stripe. He is really impressing the coaching staff with what he has done on the field. Boyd comes from Texas, so he has experience playing at a high level of football. He is really starting to make an impression on the coaching staff.

Day really let everyone know that he has been impressed with what he's seen from Boyd so far this spring.

"We got his black stripe off today, so I'm sure that will be a headliner. He made another couple of big plays today. This is somebody who knows how to run a route. He's serious about it. He can play multiple positions, and he's productive."

Boyd has already started making a name for himself. He clearly isn't afraid this spring, and he wants to see the field early. He is making it hard to keep him off the field so far in spring. Henry Jr. has also been really good, so it shows you just how good Boyd has been to already shed his black stripe.
