With it being the heart of official visit season, Ryan Day and Ohio State are on the grind and going after some touted recruits to add to the 2027 class. Just recently, linebacker Kaylon Bailey made his way to Columbus, with the staff rolling out the red carpet to get things done with him. While he hasn't committed yet, it seems the Buckeyes gave him a lot to think about.
Ohio State and Ryan Day are about to lose another recruit they essentially had locked up
And with that said, Day and Matt Patricia clearly have quite the recruiting strategy in mind. As it turns out, the coaching staff has told Bailey that they see him being a Arvell Reese-type player for the Ohio State defense moving forward. So, if Bailey commits to OSU, will Day and Co. expect him to eventually grow into the kind of player who was just taken in the first round of the NFL Draft? You bet.

Ohio State is working its magic to try to land linebacker Kaylon Bailey
That intel via reporter Mick Walker is gold. It also paints quite a picture of how part of Bailey's official visit went down. As you can see above, Bailey told Walker that Patricia brought him into his office for a special meeting, laying out the plan he has for the youngster if Bailey does play his college ball in the Big Ten for him.
It's one thing to be compared to Reese, but Patricia saying that he wants to feature Bailey in the same way that he did with the current New York Giant is pretty eye-opening. Bailey had to feel pretty dang good hearing that, especially with Ohio State making him feel like a priority for the 2027 class. Again, Bailey did not commit while in town, but the Buckeyes are considered serious contenders here.
Throughout his recruitment, the 6-1, 225-pounder has picked up nearly 20 offers, with Ohio State, Louisville, Colorado and USF standing out to him. Of those three schools competing with the Buckeyes, USF stands out a bit, as Brian Hartline is hoping to post a recruiting win against his former team. Day will be ready to work overtime to make sure that does not happen.
What could end up helping out the Buckeyes here is that Bailey is a standout for Glenville High in Cleveland. Day always wants to keep the top in-state talent close to home, which is exactly why he's hard at work, trying to get Bailey to commit. Come June 19, he'll be taking his OV to USF, while he previously visited Louisville as well.
There's no set timeline for when Bailey is going to shut down his recruitment, but Ohio State is 100 percent going to be a team to watch here moving forward. We all know the difference a big official visit can make for a recruit with Ohio State, and using Reese to help impress Bailey was a golden move by Patricia and Day. Soon enough, we'll find out if that helps the Buckeyes win this recruiting battle or not.
