Ohio State football team is seemingly losing yet another recruit they had sewn up

The recruiting momentum Ohio State had is starting to turn downward.

The Ohio State football program is starting to lose some momentum on the recruiting trail. After getting multiple predictions to land some five-star recruits, they still failed to get any commitments after official visits in the first two weekends of June. In fact, they still sit at 13 commitments.

The Buckeyes haven't had a commitment since the middle of May. Essentially, it has been a month since the Ohio State Buckeyes have been able to celebrate getting a commitment. Predictions are great, but they only matter if they come true. Ohio State is still waiting on that.

Things are actually starting to turn sour on the recruiting trail. There have been a couple of guys who had been crystal-balled to land that have decided to commit elsewhere. That seems to have happened again with defensive lineman Kasi Currie, who was projected to head to Columbus.

Four-star recruit Kasi Currie predicted to go to Texas instead of Ohio State

After once being predicted to pick the Ohio State football program, Currie has now logged a prediction to head to Texas. 247Sports has logged a prediction for him to head to Austin. Currie visited Columbus on the last weekend of May and then went to Austin the following weekend.

If this does happen, it would be bad for the Buckeyes. They can't seem to grab a commitment, as several players have had opportunities to commit but have held off. It's still early in the class, but summer is usually when Ohio State makes the most progress in recruiting.

Instead of the opportunity to really get ahead on the recruiting trail, Ryan Day and his staff seem to be dragging. Day has said multiple times that he wants to build his rosters through high school recruiting primarily, while supplementing with the Transfer Portal.

Building through high school recruiting isn't going great at the moment. Ohio State's recruiting class was once third in the country. Now, it sits 13th. Virginia Tech and UCLA have better classes than the Buckeyes at the moment. That simply can't happen.

Ohio State needs to pick it up on the recruiting trail

The Buckeyes still have time to turn things around. Signing Day is several months away still, so Ohio State still has plenty of chances to land stellar recruits. This weekend, Ohio State has a few really important recruits coming to campus. None is bigger than five-star receiver Monshun Sales.

Sales seems to be leaning toward Indiana after having been projected to go to Ohio State for quite a while. If the Buckeyes want to change his mind and lock him up, they have to close him this weekend. He has already visited Bloomington, so this is Ohio State's chance to take the lead for his recruitment.

Sales will visit Miami next weekend. It would be nice if Day could lock him up this weekend so that he cancels his visit to the Hurricanes. This could be a defining recruiting moment for Cortez Hankton, who has some big shoes to fill.
