Ohio State tabbed to fend off Miami and Oregon for the No. 1 2027 recruit, but don't discount UGA

2027 Ohio State Buckeyes EDGE commit David "DJ" Jacobs has denied that he is interested in flipping from Columbus before arriving next year. Saturday Blitz's Nicholas Rome doesn't sound so sure the Blessed Trinity Catholic product won't explore his options.

In particular, Rome feels the Oregon Ducks and Miami Hurricanes will make strong efforts from the Roswell, Georgia, native, who amassed 42 sacks and 305 tackles in three years so far in the Peach State's Class 4A division. Rome feels others will be in the mix as well.

"When 5-star David Jacobs announced his commitment to Ohio State, it stunned many as he was seen as heavily trending toward Miami. While the Buckeyes hold the commitment, this is shaping up to be a battle until National Signing Day as schools like Miami, Oregon, and others continue to stay involved in the recruitment of the 5-star," Rome wrote.

Jacobs is being heavily pursued by schools across the south, including the home-state Georgia Bulldogs and Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. The Auburn Tigers, Alabama Crimson Tide, LSU Tigers, TTUN, and even the defending champion Indiana Hoosiers are all in on Jacobs' recruitment as well.

Of course he is. Jacobs is the No. 1 overall recruit and the undisputed No. 1 edge-rusher in the class. His market is shaping up exactly how it should. The only knock on him is the competition, with 4A being far from the strongest division in Georgia. You'd be reaching with that, though.

Georgia holds a unique edge over Ohio State in DJ Jacobs' recruitment

Maybe UGA is a bigger threat than advertised here.

There are several unique advantages the Dawgs hold over the Buckeyes in Jacobs' recruitment. As DawgNation's Jeff Sentell pointed out, Jacobs' blood runs black and red with several UGA connections in the family.

"Both parents went to UGA. He’s a double legacy. His father, former DL standout David Jacobs, played during the Mark Richt era. Richt is also his Godfather. His younger brother, Dawson, also has an offer from UGA," Sentell wrote.

Anyone in Georgia grows up with the Dawgs being on everyone's mind. Jacobs has an entire lineage of UGA grads and a potential teammate in his immediate family if both brothers decide to take their talents to Athens.

The most skeptical mind could understandably wonder if OSU is being used here. It'd be a greater victory to land Jacobs for the Dawgs if it meant poaching from the Scarlet and Gray. Has Kirby Smart suddenly lost his recruiting touch in a state he's dominated on the recruiting trail for more than a decade, from his time with Georgia and Alabama? It's hard to imagine that being the case.

While everyone is paying attention to the massive NIL paychecks Oregon and Miami are offering, UGA has the chance to win a classic recruiting battle based on sentimentality. Of course, it'll take the Dawgs not expecting a hometown discount, something the Buckeyes won't be offering.

This is an interesting recruiting battle that could go many ways. It just feels like Georgia is being undersold in Jacobs' recruitment so far, but there's plenty of time for these programs to make their final case to Jacobs before the Early Signing Period from December 3 to December 5.
