Ohio State's 2027 recruiting class is led by five-star edge recruit DJ Jacobs. He is the best edge recruit in the country and has been locked in with the Buckeyes since December. Despite that, multiple other programs have been trying to flip his commitment.
The Ohio State Buckeyes are not deterred. Miami, Tennessee, and Oregon have all indicated interest in trying to flip him. An Oregon recruit recently sent a message to Jacobs to do just that. However, the Buckeyes are stiff-arming those programs by having Jacobs and his family on a visit to the season-opener.
DJ Jacobs among several prospects to visit Ohio State for Week 1
Jacobs is one of several recruits who will be visiting the Shoe for Week 1 against Ball State. Jacobs has already been to Columbus several times over the last few years. In fact, he has already engaged in some recruiting to Ohio State himself, which is why the coaching staff isn't overly worried about him flipping.
Having Jacobs on campus for the first week of the season is a big middle finger to the other programs sniffing around him. Ohio State is showing that they are not letting go of their prized recruit, no matter how many other programs try to offer a giant bag to him.
Jacobs is getting well-compensated to commit to the Buckeyes anyway, so it's not like he's coming to Columbus for free. Jacobs will be visiting the Ohio State Buckeyes at least three times this season, so he will be around the program plenty of times this Fall.
Right now, the Buckeyes have the seventh-best recruiting class in the country. They only have 19 commits for the 2027 class, which is likely close to the amount they will finish with once Signing Day rolls around. They might add one more player, but they won't be adding five or ten of them.
Ohio State hosting several 2028 recruits for Ball State game
Other than Jacobs, the Buckeyes will be hosting several 2028 prospects for the first game of the season. Dawson Jacobs, Jordan Hall, Corderro Bennett, and Demarshuwin Clemens are all going to be on site for the Buckeyes' first game of the season.
Dawson is the younger brother of DJ and is a four-star defensive line recruit in his own right. It's highly likely that Ohio State will pursue Dawson hard now that they have DJ locked up in the class. It's pretty clear that the two brothers want to continue playing on the same team.
Hall is a three-star running back, not to be confused with the Jordan Hall who played in the late 2000s and early 2010s. Bennett is a three-star receiver prospect who will likely have a higher rating when he is ready to commit. Clemons is a three-star edge recruit, too.
It should be a great opening weekend for both the Buckeyes on the field and the future ones who are visiting. The Buckeyes feel great about everything they have going on for Week 1.
