As Ohio State continues to bolster its roster for the future, one of the most pressing needs for head coach Ryan Day and offensive line coach Justin Frye is ensuring the offensive line remains a point of strength. According to a report from Bucknuts' Bill Kurelic, the Buckeyes are now in the running for another key addition from the transfer portal—offensive lineman Conner Moore from Montana State, who has also garnered interest from Cincinnati and Michigan State as well.

Moore, a 6-foot-5, 310-pound lineman from Milbury, Ohio, has taken the path less traveled, starting his collegiate career at Montana State. After redshirting in 2022, Moore proved to be an immediate contributor in 2023, starting all 12 games at left tackle and earning Freshman All-American honors.

This past season, he showcased his versatility by starting the first three games at guard before returning to left tackle for the remainder of the year, ultimately being named All-Big Sky Conference. His success at Montana State has made him a sought-after talent in the transfer portal.

Kurelic reported that Moore has already visited Cincinnati and plans to visit Michigan State before making a trip to Columbus on Saturday. His decision is expected to come soon, possibly within the next week, as he aims to return closer to home after receiving interest from southern schools but preferring to stay in the Midwest.

If Moore ultimately chooses Ohio State, it would be a significant win for the Buckeyes, as they continue to retool their offensive line for the 2025 season. Moore's ability to play both guard and tackle makes him a valuable asset for any program.

Ohio State has already made a splash in the transfer portal this cycle, bringing in offensive linemen Ethan Onianwa from Rice and Phillip Daniels from Minnesota to help fill gaps left by graduating players. Should Moore join the Buckeyes, he would become the third transfer lineman to commit to Ohio State, a move that would set up the offensive line for a healthy competition heading into 2025.

The 2025 outlook for the Buckeyes’ offensive line, should Moore commit, is promising but presents an interesting challenge. The Buckeyes already have three returning linemen who have played significant snaps in 2024: Carson Hinzman, Tegra Tshabola, and Austin Siereveld.

If Conner Moore joins the fold, Ohio State could have up to nine linemen in serious competition for starting roles. This group would include Moore, the three returning veterans, and young prospects such as center Joshua Padilla, guard Luke Montgomery, and tackle Ian Moore, all three of whom have the potential to make an impact if they remain with the team.

Having nine offensive linemen vying for starting roles would be a luxury for Ohio State in 2025, but it’s a situation not often seen in modern college football. With the increased value of offensive linemen in the transfer portal and the reality that most players want to be on the field, retaining this level of depth may be difficult. It wouldn’t be shocking if one or more players decide to transfer out in search of more playing time, as the competition for starting spots heats up.

Despite the potential for attrition, the depth and talent on Ohio State’s offensive line heading into 2025 would be enviable. Offensive line coach Justin Frye deserves credit for developing his younger players while also assembling a group with significant experience, versatility, and potential, allowing for flexibility in building a starting unit that can protect Ohio State’s high-powered offense.

If the Buckeyes can keep the majority of these players on the roster and engaged in the competition, they will have one of the deepest offensive lines in the country. Conner Moore’s potential addition would only further solidify that position group, giving Ohio State fans plenty of reasons to be excited about the future.

With Moore set to visit Ohio State this weekend, his decision could shape the trajectory of the offensive line for years to come. The Buckeyes are hoping that his desire to return home brings him to Columbus, where he could be a key piece of a formidable offensive line in 2025.
