The Ohio State football program started off slowly when it came to adding players from the transfer portal. It seemed initially that they were more locked in on their game against Tennessee. They blew out the Vols, but adding players for next year from the portal is also very critical.
On Monday, the Buckeyes were able to add three players at various positions of need from the portal. It was the best single day from the transfer portal that they have had so far. They were able to add a running back, a defensive lineman, and the top-ranked tight end.
Tuesday morning saw them add another player at a position of need. The Ohio State Buckeyes were able to sign Ethan Onianwa, a tackle from Rice. He is someone who the Buckeyes are happy to have because of how poor the depth is at tackle for next season and beyond.
The Ohio State football team lands Ethan Onianwa from the transfer portal
Onianwa stands at 6'6 and 345 pounds as a tackle. He's a junior who played his first three years with the Owls. Ohio State already added another tackle from the portal, so adding Onianwa gives them depth. He can actually play left tackle as he did for Rice.
While Onianwa might not be the top-rated target in the portal, he is still good enough to fight for a starting spot with the Buckeyes. He has to still play well in Spring to make sure that he gets a starting spot. Even if he doesn't he just helps by adding another body at tackle.
Had Ohio State recruited better on the offensive line, they wouldn't be in a position where they need to take three or four offensive linemen from the transfer portal this offseason. Still, they are doing the best they can to fix the situation. They are doing a great job of using the portal now that it has been open for two weeks.
