The Ohio State football program has had a relative lack of commitments over the last few months. Despite the Buckeyes landing several predictions to land several high-profile recruits, they just haven't committed yet. With that being the case, Ohio State still has just 13 commitments for the 2027 class.

That could be changing soon. The Ohio State Buckeyes keep getting predictions for Marcus Fakatou, indicating that he could be making a decision soon. Fakatou has narrowed down his list to just three schools. It seems like the Buckeyes are the favorite to land the five-star recruit.

Another recruit that Ohio State has a shot to land is four-star cornerback Jaden Carey. Carey is from the state of Florida and visited Columbus on the first weekend of June. He liked what he saw there, but still has an official visit scheduled for Auburn. Now, he has set a commitment date.

Ohio State recruiting target Jaden Carey sets commitment date for Wednesday

Carey has set a commitment date for this Wednesday. That seems to imply that he might not end up on that visit with Auburn next weekend. If he is going to commit before then, why would he still go? That would only happen if he ends up committing to the Tigers.

Ohio State feels good about its chances to land Carey, who would be a much-needed addition to the recruiting class. The Buckeyes have not had a cornerback recruit in this class yet. Obviously, Ohio State likes to have multiple cornerback recruits in each recruiting class.

Tim Walton has proven that he can recruit, as he landed Devin Sanchez last season. Sanchez was the top-rated cornerback recruit in last year's class and should have a big impact on the team this year. Of course, Ohio State still has other corners on its radar, as well.

Landing Carey could give Ohio State some momentum on the recruiting trail

If the Buckeyes are able to bring Carey into their recruiting class, that could give them some momentum in the month of June. Right now, they have very little momentum because they haven't been able to actually get any prospects to commit this month, despite several predictions.

Getting one commitment could set things off. That's how things kind of happen. Getting one on Wednesday would certainly help things from that standpoint. Ohio State has several needs they still need to address, including on the defensive end of the ball.

Ohio State still has several months to get commitments, so they are not worried at all. Landing Carey on Wednesday would just help them get some depth at a position of need. The secondary should be fine this year, but in the next couple of years, it will start to lose some depth.

The Buckeyes still have several prospects scheduled for a visit in the final two weekends of the month. Those visits could result in some commitments shortly after, as well. It's been a month since Ohio State has actually gotten a commitment for the 2027 class.
