This is one of the most important recruiting weekends of the year for the Ohio State football program. It's the first weekend in which official visits are permissible, and the Buckeyes have a few studs on campus for the weekend. That includes one player who is already committed to playing for the program next year.
While Prince Goldsby has already pledged to play for the Ohio State Buckeyes. The coaching staff is hoping that Goldsby will help them recruit the other four guys on campus. Two of them are five-star recruits who haven't committed anywhere yet, and another one is a receiver that Ohio State is hoping to flip.
Speaking of flipping receivers, that's what current Ohio State receiver Jeremiah Smith is trying to help with this weekend. Benny Easter Jr. is a five-star recruit who has already committed to Texas Tech, but Smith is trying his best to help him change his mind about that.

There isn't a better player for Easter Jr. to meet with than Smith when it comes to the wide receiver room. Smith is the best player in college football. If Easter Jr. wants to eventually be the best receiver in the country, he needs to learn a lot from Smith. Committing to Ohio State would certainly help that.
Easter Jr. has been committed to the Red Raiders since November, so it won't be easy for them to flip him. Still, the Buckeyes have as good a chance as any program to flip a receiver from another program. They develop receivers better than any other college football program in the nation.
Ohio State's recruiting journey is just getting started
The Buckeyes are just getting started when it comes to their recruiting strategy. As of now, they have just 13 recruits for the 2027 recruiting class. This is the first weekend in which they will really start to ramp up their recruiting efforts. They would much rather finish strong than start strong when it comes to recruiting.
With NIL, commitments don't matter until they have signed on the dotted line. FLipping has become an even bigger danger when it comes to recruits. Ohio State had that happen several times last year, and its recruiting class ranking suffered because of it. Even so, the Buckeyes still had the fourth-best class in the country.
Adding a commitment or two this weekend would certainly be nice, but they have other monster recruiting weekends set up later this summer. Those will become more critical as December inches closer. That is when most recruits end up signing their papers.
That is still over six months away. Still, getting commitments now is a goal for Ryan Day and his staff. Having kids committed to the program makes it easier to bring other kids, as well. If they can land just one of the five-star recruits they have in town this weekend, it will be a successful weekend.
