The Ohio State football program has started one of the most important recruiting weekends of the year. They have five recruits in Columbus this weekend. One of them is an Ohio State commit already, but the Buckeyes are still trying to convince the other players to play for them.

Two of the recruits on campus for the visit are five-star recruits whom the Ohio State Buckeyes would love to land. The Buckeyes only have 13 recruits for the 2027 recruiting class at the moment, and they would certainly love to add some more. Of course, this is the first official visit weekend.

One of the recruits that Ohio State is hosting this weekend is Marcus Fakatou. Fakatou is a five-star defensive lineman from the state of California. If Larry Johnson were able to land him, he would become the second five-star defensive lineman to land in this class. They decided to greet him in style.

Ohio State has Matt Patricia greet recruit at the airport

Despite not doing much recruiting for the Buckeyes, defensive coordinator Matt Patricia decided to greet Fakatou at the airport.

This is an extra touch that Ohio State decided to employ for one of the best recruits in the country. This is the first of several visits that Fakatou has scheduled over the next few weeks. The Buckeyes are hoping to make a good enough impression to win over his services.

Fakatou is from the state of California, so he had a long flight to Columbus. This might seem like a small gesture, but it's something that could make all of the difference when it comes time to commit. It's unclear when he will make his final decision, but Ohio State wants to make a good enough impression to land him right off the bat.

Ohio State has the goods to land Marcus Fakatou

Ohio State certainly should feel good about its chances to land Fakatou. In fact, they are favored to land him. A good visit this weekend should help get a commitment from him. Of course, they will have Prince Goldsby on campus with him to try to convince him that Columbus is the right place for him.

The Buckeyes have several other recruiting weekends that they are looking to excel in as well. As the month of June gets here, camp season starts. That's really when recruiting starts to ramp up. Having these elite prospects so early in the summer gives them a good shot to make a better impression than the other schools going against them.

Patricia being there for Fakatou also shows how much the Buckeyes want to land him. He doesn't do much recruiting on the road for his current role. He is rarely in prospect's homes, and usually just talks to recruits when they get on campus. For him to come to the airport shows how much they care about getting him.

Ryan Day is hoping to have a better recruiting class than he did for the 2026 recruiting class.
