The Ohio State football program set some history on Thursday night when Emeka Egbuka was selected in the first round. It became the first time that a collegiate program has had receivers be drafted in the first round in four straight NFL Drafts.
Egbuka was the first of many Ohio State Buckeyes off the board, being drafted 19th overall by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He fits in perfectly with what Tampa wants to do on offense, and gives them a receiver to take over when Mike Evans decides to hang it up.
Not only can Egbuka play outside, but he can navigate the slot masterfully. He is viewed as someone who can be a really good player for a long time, and he can help the Bucs now. With Baker Mayfield slinging him the ball, the Bucs believe that they can win the NFC South next year.
Ohio State football player Emeka Egbuka is the perfect fit for the Bucs
Egbuka leaves Ohio State as a very accomplished player. He had multiple seasons of 1,000+ yards receiving and was one of the leaders whom the Buckeyes leaned on last year. He will fit right in with the Bucs as they try to make the playoffs and make a run to the playoffs.
The Bucs already had one of the highest scoring offenses in the NFL last season. Adding Egbuka only makes them more dangerous, and they are clearly trying to win games by outscoring teams instead of playing better defense. Egbuka is going to score a lot of touchdowns.
Egbuka is the first Ohio State player off the board. It'll be interesting to see where the other Ohio State football players are drafted throughout the rest of the draft. Egbuka was not projected to be drafted ahead of Josh Simmons, but the Bucs loved him.
