The Ohio State Buckeyes are taking on the best team they have faced since the game against Texas. In that game, the Buckeyes blew a 20-point fourth-quarter lead. Now, they will take on the Indiana Hoosiers in Bloomington. It will be a battle between two top-five teams.
Ohio State is the higher-ranked team, and they have the best player. Jeremiah Smith is the best player in the country, and he will certainly be a big part of Ohio State's game plan. Legend Bey will now be a big part of the game plan after the Buckeyes got a disappointing update on the injury front.
Ohio State will give Legend Bey a chance to shine vs. Indiana
According to the Big Ten availability report, Ohio State will be without Ja'Kobi Jackson. Jackson has turned into the most consistent running back that the Buckeyes have on the roster. Now, he will miss the most consequential game of the Big Ten portion of the season in shocking fashion.
It's a huge surprise to see Jackson be ruled out. He didn't seem to be hurt against Maryland. However, he supposedly was hurt late in that game, and now he is out. Isaiah West is also listed as questionable. That means Bey could suddenly jump to second on the depth chart.
Bey has struggled to earn the trust of the coaches. He had some issues off the field that contributed to that, as well. However, Ryan Day will have no choice but to give Bey meaningful snaps throughout this game. West played one bad snap against Maryland and almost got Julian Sayin killed on the pick-six he threw.
Bo Jackson is still the undisputed starter for the Buckeyes. He finally rushed for over 100 yards in a game last week against the Terrapins. He will be on the field for the bulk of the snaps against the Hoosiers. However, Bey has a massive opportunity to show that he is a star.
IU game could be the breakout game for Ohio State RB Legend Bey
With the time that he is going to get, Bey has an opportunity to become a true star. He is going to get at least seven to eight touches in this game. What he does with those touches could propel him to become a true star player for the rest of the season, which Ohio State desperately needs.
The Buckeyes need to find someone else they can rely on besides Smith. He is carrying too large a burden right now, even if he is the greatest Ohio State football player of his generation. If Ohio State is going to walk out of Bloomington with a win, they need to get him more help.
Austin Siereveld is also out for this game, so the offensive line will be undermanned again. That won't help Bey or Jackson. However, this gives Bey an even larger opportunity. If he can break off some big runs in a game without the starting offensive line in front of him, the coaches will have no choice but to keep playing him.
