The Ohio State football team came into the Cotton Bowl with a gameplan to get the ball to Jeremiah Smith. He had been the most dominant player in the College Football player to that point. He torched both Tennessee and Oregon en route to dominant Buckeye victories.
Ohio State ended up taking down the Longhorns 28-14, thanks to some tough defense. Smith was held largely in check, catching just one pass for three yards. Despite that, Will Howard still had 289 passing yards in the game. He just found other targets who were more open.
Taking away Smith was clearly a large part of what Texas wanted to do on defense. He is by far the most dangerous player left in the CFP. There was a picture going around on social media of Texas bracketing him with three guys. Smith's reaction was priceless.

Take a look at the picture below to see how much attention Smith commanded in this game.
Smith was being totally taken away. Texas went into that game forcing the Ohio State Buckeyes to beat them with someone else. That's exactly what they were able to do. Ohio State took them down using other weapons in the passing game an opportunistic chances in the run game.
Now, the Buckeyes are taking on Notre Dame for the right to win a national championship. Ohio State has opened up as a 9.5-point favorite in the game. The way their defense has played during this CFP run is why Vegas has the Buckeyes as such a big favorite.
Notre Dame wanted to take on the Buckeyes. They are getting their wish. They probably should have wished for something else after watching how they took down the Longhorns.
