Ohio State hosted several recruits in their season-opening victory over the Ball State Cardinals. Most of the recruits visiting Columbus were from the 2028 recruiting class, as the Buckeyes have already shored up most of the 2027 recruiting class. Even so, DJ Jacobs was there with his entire family.
One of the 2028 recruits who was in attendance for that first game is tight end recruit Luke Sohyda. Sohyda liked his experience with the Ohio State Buckeyes so much that he decided that's where he wants to spend his collegiate experience, as he has committed there.
Luke Sohyda commits to the Ohio State football program
Sohyda becomes the first commit that the Buckeyes have at the tight end position in the 2028 recruiting class. He is a three-star tight end from Canonsburg, PA. He stands at 6'4 and 250 pounds and is someone that Kennan Bailey wants to add to Ohio State.
Sohyda made his decision to commit to the Buckeyes very quickly. He was just offered back in June, and he was very pleased with what he saw in Week 1. He has decided that he will fit best in Arthur Smith's offense, which does have a history of being kind to tight ends.
Adding Sohyda gives Ohio State five recruits in the 2028 class so far. However, he is the lowest-rated recruit that Ohio State has so far. In fact, three of the five commits the Buckeyes have right now are five-star recruits. They will likely keep adding elite talent as the rest of the year goes along.
Ohio State won't be hosting any recruits this weekend, as they will be on the road, playing against Texas. This might be the toughest road game that the Buckeyes have all season long. Of course, they will have to travel to Bloomington and Los Angeles, as well.
Ohio State will keep adding great recruits in the 2028 class
While the Buckeyes have a lot of tough road games, they also have a lot of quality home games that they can use to host elite recruits. Expect plenty of recruits to be visiting Columbus this season in the 2028 class, as they are trying to have a top-three class.
The 2027 class got away from the Buckeyes late in the summer. Once David Gabriel Georges and Monshun Sales decided to go elsewhere, it kept them from having any chance of having a top-three class. In fact, the Buckeyes have just the seventh-best class as things stand right now.
Ohio State is already off to a great start by having one of the best classes for next year. Since most of the 2027 class is already taken care of, that means they will focus more on the 2028 class. It wouldn't be shocking to see Ohio State add at least a handful more recruits by the time the 2026 season is finished.
While none of them can help them win games this season, they will be able to in just a couple of years.
