The recruiting news keeps coming in for Ohio State and this one is disappointing. It's had been reported that four-star athlete Legend Bey would push his signing back to Friday with several schools in pursuit.

Bey, a blue-chip prospect out of Texas, recently flipped his commitment from Tennessee to Ohio State, but less than a month later Bey has decided to go back to Knoxville and made a pledge to the SEC school.

247Sports national recruiting analyst Tom Loy originally said that the Vols, Baylor and SMU were all in the picture to try to flip Bey. There was also a report that West Virginia was trying to make a strong push for the athlete.

A wild day in Columbus gets crazier by the minute

There are so many moving parts around Ohio State today and it's going both ways. The Buckeyes have gained a major defensive back prospect, Kaden Gebhardt, flipping the safety from Clemson. And there is plenty of news, both good and concerning, regarding the status of Chris Henry Jr., who is reportedly still unsigned despite earlier reports saying he had put pen to paper with the Buckeyes.

And, oh yeah, offensive coordinator Brian Hartline is leaving for South Florida, but he'll be hanging with the Ohio State for the duration of the college football playoffs. One can connect the situations with Bey and Henry with Hartline's departure. While Henry is clearly someone who is a definite take for Ohio State, Bey is more of a swiss army knife type of player that might not fit with what Ryan Day's vision is for the Buckeyes offense.

Buckeyes still in line for top-10 class or better

Right now, 247Sports still has the Ohio State recruiting class ranked sixth overall, but depending on the developments with Bey and Henry, that could change. Also, don't rule out the Buckeyes staff continuing to pursue flips and more signing day surprises.

The good news is that the Buckeyes are still bringing a lot of top talent to the program and have already gotten off to a good start with the 2027 recruiting class.  Day also has a great track record of hiring assistants, so the present and the future remain bright in Columbus.
