What a difference a day can make for Ohio State and Ryan Day. On Wednesday, some tough news came in with Rivals' Steve Wiltfong putting in an official prediction for 5-star wideout Eric McFarland to commit to Texas A&M over OSU and others.

Yup, that was a bummer, as McFarland is scheduled to take a visit to Columbus on June 12. However, that doesn't mean all is bad for the OSU recruiting team. That's because on Thursday night, more news came in, this time with 5-star cornerback John Meredith announcing he has scheduled four officials. One of those will be to visit Ohio State on June 19. This is great news for multiple reasons:

5-star WR John Meredith has locked in his Ohio State football visit
For starters, Meredith is the No. 1 cornerback in the country per the 247Sports Composite and the No. 2 player overall for the 2027 class. Countless teams are chasing his commitment, but Ohio State is among the schools standing out a bit.
They're not the only ones pushing hard for Meredith, as he will also be taking OVs to Alabama, Texas and Texas A&M. What makes things even better for Ohio State here, though, is that his trip to Columbus will be the last one on his schedule.
With that, Day and Co. are going to have the last opportunity to turn his head while he's on campus. If the Buckeyes turn his head before he heads home, could it lead to him realizing he needs to play his college ball in the Big Ten? That's what Day is hoping for.
Things feel like they're a bit of a toss-up here, but it's clear that Ohio State is a serious contender to land Meredith moving forward. He's high on the board for the Buckeyes and the strong interest is definitely mutual there. Day has already landed some big-name commits for '27 and the hope is many more will be on the way. We'll see if Meredith ends up giving Day the news he's hoping for once June gets here.
