The Ohio State football program has had a lot of staff turnover over the last couple of seasons. Changes in offensive coordinator, defensive coordinator, and wide receivers coach have led Ryan Day to make several hires over the past couple of seasons.

Day knocked the Matt Patricia hire out of the park. They were able to sign him to an extension a few weeks ago, although it's still unclear how long that extension runs. Day hired Cortez Hankton as the wide receivers coach to take over Brian Hartline's duties.

Arthur Smith has been brought in as the new offensive coordinator to take over Hartline's other duties. He will be the new play-caller. Now, the Ohio State Buckeyes have made the decision to hire another assistant coach who has worked with Smith and is someone he trusts.

Ohio State football team hires Mateo Kambui as offensive line assistant coach

Day has brought on Mateo Kambu as an assistant offensive line coach, according to Spencer Holbrook of Letterman Row. Kambui has coached under Smith for each of the last three seasons. He has been with him in both Atlanta and Pittsburgh, and now he joins him in Columbus.

The Buckeyes have several assistant coaches and analysts on the offensive line to help Tyler Bowen get the guys in the trenches to play at their best. The offensive line was perhaps the biggest reason why Ohio State lost the final two games of the year. They simply didn't block well enough.

Adding Kambui right before spring practice is ideal. Having him available for the entire spring program makes it so he doesn't have to play catch-up. He also knows what Smith likes to do on offense, so he can help Bowen tailor the offensive line's approach to best fit his scheme.

The Buckeyes start spring practice in just under two weeks.
