Ohio State LB Cincere Johnson's absurd muscle gain speaks to ceiling for Ryan Day’s monster 2026 class

With Ohio State and Ryan Day getting ready for fall camp to get started, it's easy to get fired up about the true freshmen who are getting ready for their first taste of August practices. Yes, there's a ton of attention going to wideout Chris Henry Jr., but he's not the only 5-star playmaker hoping to make a splash ahead of Week 1.

Over on defense, linebacker Cincere Johnson is entering his debut season with a ton of hype, as the hard-hitting 'backer flew up the recruiting rankings before making his way to Columbus. On top of that, Johnson is also turning heads thanks to his mind-blowing body transformation, which has included putting on 20 pounds of muscle. The kid looks jacked!

When Johnson first made the move to campus, he was maybe a touch undersized, but that's of course no longer the case for him. We kid, but this indeed is going to help Johnson make even more of an impact in 2026 and beyond. The excitement for him to be a stud for Ohio State DC Matt Patricia has been through the roof since last winter. Johnson finished ranked five stars, the No. 1 linebacker in the country, and No. 16 prospect nationally according to the 247Sports Composite.

Him being a Cleveland native only made things better for Day when he signed, as Ohio State is always going to want to keep the top homegrown talent from playing elsewhere. Johnson could have suited up anywhere he wanted to, with 34 total offers to his name. Penn State and Alabama were also making a strong push, but Day got things done there recruiting wise.

Last season for his high school team, Johnson posted a head-turning 185 total tackles, with 13.5 sacks and five forced fumbles. It speaks to his ability to be a total stud on defense, with the Ohio State faithful hoping more of the same will be on the way soon enough.

Johnson's potential also speaks to the incredible ceiling for the '26 haul as a whole. Sure, a lot of focus is on Henry and Johnson, but the class finished ranked No. 3 in the country, with cornerback Jay Timmons giving Tay three total 5-stars. And with Johnson buying into a strong work ethic early on with Ohio State, it gives fans yet another reason to believe this staff is going to be in a spot to push for even more national titles in the future.
