So far this season, the Ohio State Buckeyes have been on College GameDay two different times this year. The first time was when they were on site for the game against Texas, which Ohio State lost. They were also in Iowa City when the Buckeyes visited the Hawkeyes.
Next week, the last two national champions meet up in Bloomington for what will be a top-10 clash. It's a prime site for GameDay to head to. However, Ohio State won't get another appearance on the flagship college pregame show, as they have decided to head somewhere else.
Ohio State doesn't get another College GameDay appearance against IU
The Buckeyes are traveling to Bloomington, but College GameDay won't be going with them. They have decided to head to Provo, Utah, for the BYU vs. Notre Dame game. That was the only other game in contention for their appearance, as that will also be a top-10 matchup.
It's certainly a choice for GameDay to decide to avoid a game in which the last two national champions are playing. These two teams are also in the discussion for the national title. The loser of the Notre Dame/BYU game will likely miss out on the College Football Playoff because of a poor schedule.
Perhaps GameDay didn't want to go to Bloomington and deal with Big Noon Kickoff also being on campus. The Big Ten's pregame show will be there, and maybe they didn't want to deal with a split crowd situation. It also could be that they didn't want to showcase Ohio State three times in seven weeks.
Whatever the reason is, it was likely the last time that College GameDay would consider visiting the site of an Ohio State game this year. Had Oregon not crapped the bed again, there was a shot that it could have been a GameDay game. Now, it seems unlikely Ohio State fans will see them again.
Ohio State needs to eliminate distractions before Indiana game
This is a game that the Ohio State Buckeyes have had circled all year long. They need to eliminate distractions that will pop up between now and the end of the week. There were some distractions heading into the Maryland game, including reports about Legend Bey's struggles off the field.
Ohio State is the best team that the Hoosiers have seen this year, and it's not close. The Hoosiers have one of the softest schedules in the country, especially in the first half of the year. Meanwhile, Ohio State has already had a couple of big tests in the first six weeks.
Eliminating distractions from the media and outside of the facility will be key to keeping them locked in all week. Ohio State feels confident heading into this game after what they have done the last few weeks. That includes the massive victory over Maryland.
GameDay will still be going to a good game. However, they might be missing out on one of the best games that will be played all season long. That's a risk they are prepared to make.
