As everyone knows, that game didn't end well. The Ohio State Buckeyes blew a 20-point lead in the fourth quarter, and it ended up costing the team its number-one ranking. Now, the team will be featured on GameDay for a second time this season.
College GameDay is traveling to Iowa City for Ohio State vs. Iowa
On Sunday morning, College GameDay announced that they will be traveling to Iowa City for the Buckeyes vs. Hawkeyes. Both teams won on Saturday. Ohio State crushed Illinois 42-19, while Iowa won at Michigan on the final play of the game. That was justice for what happened in Week 1.
It's the first time in 20 years that GameDay has been to Iowa City. That means that the fans will be charged up for this game. While it won't be a night game, the fans should be very hyped up for this matchup. It's going to be a hostile environment for the Buckeyes to step into.
Ohio State has to fix its run defense before next weekend if it is going to win this game. Giving up 199 rushing yards to the Illini is not something that is acceptable. While the Hawkeyes only rushed for 58 yards against TTUN, Ohio State still can't let them get that going.
Iowa is a ball-control type of team, and they will try to win the game by minimizing possessions and playing good defense. Jeremiah Smith will once again be the best player on the field, but Ohio State still needs someone else to step up alongside him to help the team.
Ohio State is hitting the meat of its schedule
This is the start of the tough part of Ohio State's schedule. They play at Iowa, at Indiana, and at USC in the coming weeks. All of those teams are ranked right now, although USC might fall out of the polls after losing to USC. Still, those are all solid teams that can challenge the Buckeyes.
Ohio State has to figure out the best way to navigate this schedule by picking up no more than one loss. They still have to play Oregon and TTUN when the calendar flips to November, as well. It's going to be hard for the Buckeyes to make the College Football Playoff if they accumulate more than two losses.
Winning this game by double digits would give Ohio State fans some comfort that they have fixed the issues that plagued them against the Longhorns. They did have a better fourth quarter against Illinois, but they need to have a strong fourth quarter against a good team.
