The Ohio State football program has been getting some momentum on the recruiting trail. After having the first few months of the year not yield many commitments, the month of June has been fruitful. Tim Walton started things off with a bang in the secondary, and now other positions are getting filled, too.
Tyler Bowen was able to land his best recruit since coming on with the Buckeyes. That gave Ohio State three commitments in the month of June for the 2027 recruiting class. Now they have landed a fourth, as Cortez Hankton has gotten on the board with the receivers.
On Saturday afternoon, the Ohio State Buckeyes got a commitment from Jordan Donahoo, a three-star receiver from the state of Florida. He picked the Buckeyes over Cincinnati, Georgia Tech, and Minnesota. He becomes the second receiver in the class.
Ohio State gets commitment from receiver Jordan Donahoo
Donahoo stands at 6'4 and 185 pounds, so he is a little skinny. Putting on some weight will help him once he comes to Ohio State, which is something that Coach Marotti will be able to help with. He's a solid prospect, though, even if he's not the most talented one in the class.
Of course, this is not the only commitment that Hankton is looking to get in the 2027 class. The Buckeyes are still hoping to be able to have Monshun Sales commit. He is a five-star recruit and is one of the best receivers in the country. He is likely between the Buckeyes and the Hoosiers for his final school choice.
If Hankton is able to pull that commitment off, too, then fans will not have to worry about Hankton as a coach any longer. Ohio State, without Brian Hartline, was supposed to give other programs a chance to land top receiver recruits. If Hankton can do this, then other programs still have no chance.
Ohio State can still build a top-five recruiting class in the country
This gives Ohio State 17 commits for the class. Right now, they sit 10th in the recruiting rankings right now. That will likely rise by the time the end of summer arrives. If they are able to land Sales and some of the other five-star recruits they are predicted to land, they could easily have a top-five class in December.
The Buckeyes have to make sure that they stay on top of the recruits that have already committed to the class. Flipping is always a concern, especially in the NIL era. With teams being able to throw bags of money at recruits, flipping late in the year is always a concern.
Donahoo looks like someone who won't be flipping. He loves Ohio State, and they are the biggest program to offer him a scholarship. He is likely going to stick around. How much playing time he sees in the future remains to be seen, although he likely won't see much playing time early in his career because of the talent ahead of him.
