Ohio State football's win over Texas was historic and in a bad way for Sark

This is how you make a statement. To open the season, Texas was the No. 1 team in the country and the Ohio State football team was No. 2. A lot of people, including loud-mouthed Paul Finebaum, assumed the Longhorns would cruise to a win.

That take aged like old milk sitting outside on a hot August day. The Ohio State defense gave Arch Manning all sorts of fits, with Ohio State posting a 14-7 win. As it turns out, Saturday's win was historic in terms of TV ratings, as the Big Noon Kickoff showdown was watched by more than 16.6 million people, setting the new record for most viewers for a Week 1 game ever:

This is great news for Ryan Day and his coaches/players, but it's not ideal for Texas and Steve Sarkisian. All summer, we've heard about how great the Longhorns are going to be and how Manning is a top contender for the Heisman Trophy.

'Texas is back' is what everyone in Austin has been yelling for a while. Instead of making a statement to open up the new campaign ranked as the top team in the land, the Longhorns fell flat on their face. Sark and his coaches couldn't match what Ohio State brought to the table.

With the loss in Columbus, Texas fell six spots to No. 7. Ohio State is the new No. 1 team in the country, which is exactly the way it should be. There was some buzz that potentially LSU and Brian Kelly would jump the Buckeyes, but thankfully that wasn't the case.

The 14 points by Ohio State was a bit of a disappointment, especially with Julian Sayin making his first-career start. However, Day said that the plan wasn't to open up the playbook and have Sayin throw the ball all over the field in his first start. The staff wanted to be careful with him and ease the former 5-star prospect into things.

That won't be the case in Week 2, as Ohio State will be hosting Grambling in a game that should be wrapped up by the second quarter. Saying is going to want to build his confidence and that's going to be the case come Saturday. Texas will look to bounce back, but they'll be doing so with people across the planet thinking they were overrated to start '25 in the first place.
