The Ohio State football team is taking on Notre Dame for the national championship. The Buckeyes punched their ticket to the game after a 28-14 victory over Texas. This is the first time they've played in the National Championship since 2020. They are hoping for a different result this time.
Notre Dame wanted Ohio State. Jeremiyah Love let everyone know that. Now, they get them. The Buckeyes get a much better matchup against the Irish than they did against Texas because of the way Notre Dame plays offense. Ohio State should feel good about how they match up against them.
Even though it's just the morning after the Cotton Bowl, we are already looking ahead to what will be an iconic national championship. This game will feature two of the biggest brands in college football. Looking at it right now, the Buckeyes have a clear advantage.
Ohio State football vs. Notre Dame early preview
The Buckeyes weren't able to find enough opportunities for Jeremiah Smith in this game. He had just one catch for three yards. While the Fighting Irish will try to copy that game plan, it's highly unlikely that he will be held that much in check for a second game in a row.
Jack Sawyer keeps getting pressure on the quarterback. Quinn Ewers struggled with that all night in the Cotton Bowl. Riley Leonard will have to deal with it too, although he can escape pressure easier. His legs are going to be a big deal in this game.
Early prediction: Ohio State 27 Notre Dame 10
Cody Simon will likely be used as a spy on Leonard through most of this game, as he did against Dillon Gabriel in the Rose Bowl. Leonard is not nearly as good of a passer as Gabriel is, though. If Ohio State gets up early in this game, there is no chance the Irish can come back.
This is going to be a game that the Buckeyes want to win for Ryan Day more badly than any other game since the Michigan game. This team is connected and ready to win it all.
