Before this season, the Ohio State Buckeyes made a big change to their uniform. They finally added the gray sleeves back to their normal uniform. It was something that Ohio State football fans had been clamoring for for years. In every game this season, the Buckeyes look slick.
They also introduced three new uniforms that they will be wearing at some point this season. They haven't worn any of them yet, but they have all-scarlet, all-white, and all-black uniforms they will be wearing. This weekend, the Buckeyes will be wearing one of those new uniform sets.
Ohio State to wear subzero uniforms against Iowa
This Saturday afternoon, the Buckeyes will be wearing their subzero uniforms. Those are the all-white uniforms that they unveiled before the season. This is a game that makes sense for them to wear them, as Iowa will likely wear all black, and the crowd will be in black and yellow stripes.
Ohio State will be playing in a hostile environment, so wearing uniforms that make it easier to see themselves on the field makes sense. This uniform set is also a very cool uniform, so wearing it during a big game to showcase to the world makes all the sense in the world.
With this being a 3:30 pm kickoff, the Buckeyes will avoid the nightmare scenario, which would have been a night game. The crowd will be charged up, but Ohio State has already played in a tough scene. Had they not had the worst fourth quarter in program history, they would be undefeated.
Iowa is coming off a victory over previously undefeated (allegedly) Michigan. The Hawkeyes won on the final play of the game by catching a touchdown pass in the corner. Ohio State will have its work cut out for it against a team with a great defense and a ball-control offense.
Ohio State has a chance to show the adjustments they made were the right ones
After the collapse in Austin, Ryan Day and the coaching staff made sure that they made adjustments so that this would never happen again. The Buckeyes haven't really had an opportunity to see if those will hold up in a close game in the fourth quarter yet, although the fourth quarter against Illinois was strong.
Stopping the run is a massive problem that must be corrected coming off the game against the Illini. The Buckeyes allowed 199 yards on the ground last week. If they do that against Iowa, there is a good chance they lose the game. Iowa would be able to control the clock and lean on their defense.
Day knows that is going to be an issue, so he knows the Buckeyes have been focusing on that heading into this matchup already. Running the ball better is something they need to fix, as well. However, this is the kind of game where they might just hit the Jeremiah Smith button constantly.
It's a pretty effective button to press, as Smith had four touchdown catches last weekend. If he gets two more, he breaks Chris Olave's career touchdown reception record. I would expect him to do that this week in those cool-looking uniforms.
