The Ohio State football program continues to gear up for the Cotton Bowl. Now that the Buckeyes know that they are taking on Miami, they can game plan to have success with specific players and formations. They lost their last game against Indiana in the Big Ten Championship.
In that game, Tegra Tshabola was once again terrible. He was beaten several times on the right side of the line, which is a recurring theme in what has happened all year long. He actually ended up playing well against Michigan, but he regressed in a massive way against the Hoosiers.
There were outcries to bench him after that game ahead of the College Football Playoff. Gabe VanSickle replaced Tshabola in the second half of the Big Ten Championship and played well. Now, he will be replaced because of an injury, removing any concern from fans.
The Ohio State football team will be without Tegra Tshabola for the CFP
While talking to the media ahead of the Cotton Bowl, Day mentioned that the Ohio State Buckeyes will be without Tshabola for weeks with an injury. He did not disclose that injury, but the Buckeyes will have no choice but to play VanSickle or Josh Padilla at right guard.
The Buckeyes might be in a better spot without Tshabola in the lineup. His lack of ability to do really much of anything has been the Achilles heel for the offensive line all season long. Taking him out of the equation will likely make the team better against the Hurricanes and for the rest of the year.
Tshabola should never have been starting this season. He was rotated in and out of the lineup a year ago during the College Football Playoff, so it seemed like his time as a starter had come to an end, anyway. Yet, Tyler Bowen decided to keep Tshabola as the starting right guard.
This could end up being a blessing in disguise.
