The Ohio State football team has been the most dominant team in the country up to this point. That was on display against the Bruins of UCLA on Saturday night. The Buckeyes ran for over 200 yards in that game, proving that they can run the ball when they really want to.
That doesn't mean that this team is perfect. They still have some flaws, specifically on the offensive line. The right guard spot has been a problem spot for the Ohio State Buckeyes for the last two years. Tegra Tshabola was the starter coming into the season.
Tshabola has been the weak link on the offensive line, whiffing blocks left and right. In the game against UCLA, Tshabola had a few more whiffs, including on a touchdown run by Bo Jackson. That seemed to be the final straw because the Buckeyes added a new guard to roll with the starters.
The Ohio State football team might be finally making a change at right guard
Gabe VanSickle was put in at right guard to run with the starters and played pretty darn well. He was thrust into that spot because Joshua Padilla was still injured and was not ready to go. Regardless, it looked better with him out there than it did with Tshabola, and the writing seems to be on the wall.
Next week against Rutgers, there's a very good shot that Ryan Day decides to have another starter out there instead of Tshabola. Whether it's Padilla, VanSickle, or Ian Moore, there needs to be a change made before Ohio State heads to Ann Arbor in a couple of weeks.
The Buckeyes are trying to go for back-to-back national championships. Winning two in a row requires perfection in all aspects of the game. Making a change up front to remove the weakest link on an otherwise stellar offensive line would seem to be a prudent move.
