The Ohio State football team has been much less affected by injuries so far this season than they were a year ago. Last season, they had two offensive linemen go down with season-ending injuries. They were able to persevere and still win the national championship.

Nothing close to those levels of injuries has befallen the Buckeyes so far. They haven't missed a key guy yet for a game this year. Earlier this week, Ryan Day hinted that it might not be the case for this weekend as the Buckeyes travel to West Lafayette to take on Purdue.

Day mentioned that three offensive linemen were hurt, but two were going to be practicing. We now know which one was not well enough to practice to be ready for this game, as the Ohio State Buckeyes will be without Joshua Padilla for this game against the Boilermakers.

According to ESPN's Pete Thamel, Padilla will miss this game against Purdue. He described the injury as "lower-body" but did not specify what it was or the severity of the injury.

Padilla has been pushing Tegra Tshabola for the starting right guard spot. Tshabola has been the weakest link on the offensive line for each of the last two seasons, so Day has been looking for some answers. Padilla has done a good job of pushing to fully take over the starting job.

This setback will make sure that Padilla isn't the starting right guard this week. This isn't a critical game to have Padilla, so it's not horrible that he misses this game. The Buckeyes need him more later in the season to help with the depth of the offensive line than they do against the worst team in the Big Ten.

The hope for Ohio State is that this injury is not a long-term concern. Day will likely be asked about this injury following the game to see if he will provide an update on what Padilla is dealing with.
