The Ohio State football team has cruised through the 2025 season thus far. Other than the first game of the season against Texas, the Buckeyes haven't been tested this year. They continue to blow teams out, and now Julian Sayin looks like the front-runner for the Heisman Trophy.
Sayin has been able to put up those great numbers because of how good the offensive line has been. So far, they have only shown to have one leak, and that's at right guard. Tegra Tshabola continues to fight for his job with Joshua Padilla, and that job is not settled yet.
Unfortunately, both of those players left the game against Penn State early, as did starting left guard Luke Montgomery. Ryan Day revealed during his weekly press conference some news that might concern fans of the Buckeyes moving forward.
Ohio State football team might have some issues with injuries
Day revealed that both Tshabola, Padilla, and Montgomery are dealing with injuries this week ahead of taking on Purdue.
Asked about guards Luke Montgomery, Tegra Tshabola and Joshua Padilla – who all left the Penn State game early with injuries – Ryan Day said he expects two of them (without specifying which) to practice today while the other will be evaluated during the week.

It's not ideal that all three guards aren't practicing as soon as possible. If there had to be one of these guys out, having Tshabola out would be the most ideal. He was the weakest link on the offensive line last year, and that has continued into this season. Padilla deserves a real shot at playing with the starters.
The good news for the Ohio State Buckeyes is that they take on Purdue this week. The Boilermakers are probably the worst team in the Big Ten, so they certainly don't need to risk further injury this week. If one of those guys has to sit out, this is the week to get them healthy.
The Buckeyes won't get tested again until they travel to Ann Arbor later this month, so everything they do between now and then is about getting ready for that game. Being as healthy as possible up front is going to be something Day emphasizes moving forward.
This is something worth keeping an eye on for the rest of the week, leading up to Saturday.
