The Ohio State football team was ranked second in the first College Football Playoff rankings. Looking at their resume to that point, it was well-deserved. Of course, that meant they were relegated to the five-seed in the new bracket because Oregon was ranked first.

All the Ohio State Buckeyes did was shut out Purdue last weekend 45-0. None of their big wins look any worse than they did a week ago either. Based on all of that, the second edition of the CFP rankings was a bit anticlimactic for them. They knew where they'd be seeded.

Ohio State football team ranked second again in the CFP rankings

As expected, the Buckeyes are still ranked second. They remain in the five-seed spot. That makes sense considering how strong they looked against the Boilermakers. Ohio State has another easy opponent this weekend as they take on Northwestern, so that shouldn't affect their ranking much unless they get upset.

While the Buckeyes' spot didn't change, one of their future opponent's spots did change. Indiana was ranked eighth in last week's rankings. After they survived an upset bid against Michigan, they moved up to fifth in the rankings. That gives the Buckeyes another chance for a big win.

Penn State, which represents the best win Ohio State has so far, also moved up. Following Georgia's upset loss against Ole Miss, the Nittany Lions moved up to the fourth spot in the rankings. But because they are the third-ranked Big Ten team, they are only seeded sixth.

Everything is still out in front of the Buckeyes. They still have a path to win the Big Ten and get a first-round bye in the College Football Playoff. They just need to win the remainder of their games and beat Oregon in a rematch in the Big Ten Championship.
