Ohio State football team's biggest waste of NIL money somehow still got drafted

The Ohio State football team's biggest waste of NIL money in the Ryan Day era somehow still got selected in the NFL draft.

The Ohio State football program had an impressive number of players taken during the 2026 NFL Draft. It was an accomplishment that the Buckeyes should be proud of, as they have tied Georgia for the most players taken in back-to-back NFL Drafts in history.

Over the course of the draft, most of the Ohio State Buckeyes taken could be seen as contributors at some point. Even if not all of them will be starters, like most of the guys taken in the first round, the Buckeyes still had a lot of guys who should contribute to NFL rosters next season.

One player who no one expected to be drafted was Ethan Onianwa. Onianwa was by far the biggest waste of NIL money that Ryan Day has spent in his head coaching career. Despite that fact, he was somehow able to be taken in the draft by the Atlanta Falcons.

One of Ohio State's biggest failures was somehow still drafted

When Onianwa was brought to Columbus, he was expected to be the starting left tackle in 2025. Instead, he wasn't even good enough to be a backup. He spent most of the season being the third-string guard instead of earning the NIL money he was paid by Ohio State.

Despite his failures with the Buckeyes, he was somehow taken by the Atlanta Falcons. He was drafted in the seventh round. Onianwa never started a game for the Buckeyes. Yet, Atlanta thought he was a good enough prospect to be brought into the program.

Quite honestly, it's a shock that Onianwa has a chance to continue his football career. He was paid over a $1 million to come to Columbus, and wasted almost every cent of it. The fact that an NFL team is giving him a chance to make the team is very surprising.

It would be utterly shocking if Onianwa somehow made the Falcons' opening-day roster in the Fall when training camp is over.
