Right after James Franklin was fired, the Ohio State football team started looking at some Penn State recruits. They are trying to capitalize on what has been a wild coaching market over the last few weeks. In fact, the Buckeyes are hosting a Penn State commit this weekend as the Nittany Lions come to town.

Kemon Spell is a recruit that the Ohio State Buckeyes have been trying to flip. He de-committed from Penn State after the Nittany Lions made the decision to fire him. Spell seemed poised to leave Ohio State behind, but that might not actually be the case.

Spell, the number one running back recruit in the 2027 class, hasn't seemed to fully write off the Buckeyes just yet. Despite being predicted to pick Notre Dame, the latest intel is that Carlos Locklyn and the Buckeyes are making a big push to land him.

Ohio State football team might still have a shot to land Kemon Spell

According to Steve Wiltfong of Rivals, Ohio State can't be counted out when it comes to Spell's recruitment, especially with him heading to Columbus for a visit this weekend.

"This is his second time visiting Ohio State this season...Ohio State is right there, in the thick of his recruitment. He has a great relationship with Coach Locklyn, and I think the Buckeyes are one of the front-runners, as well. It's a big return visit to campus for Kemon Spell and his family."

With this being the second time that Spell is on campus, the Buckeyes need to make sure that they lock Spell up as best they can. He has a really good relationship with Notre Dame, so they are the main competition for him. A solid afternoon on the ground on Saturday would certainly help their case.

Ohio State's running game has been a bit up-and-down so far this season, but it was solid against Wisconsin a couple of weeks ago. Another good performance would do wonders for their chances of landing the best running back in the 2027 recruiting class.
