The Ohio State football program has a legitimate shot to win back-to-back national championships. They are the clear number one team in the country, and that doesn't look like it's going to change anytime soon. That has helped them flip a few recruits on the recruiting trail.
After Penn State fired James Franklin, several recruits bailed on the Nittany Lions, and the Buckeyes have indicated interest in some of them. The top prize is 2027 running back Kemon Spell, who is listed as the top running back in the country for the 2027 class.
While he was predicted to pick Notre Dame recently, the Ohio State Buckeyes were hoping to be able to change his mind. They still have some of the best resources of anyone in the country. Instead, Spell has completely spurned the Buckeyes, not even locking in a visit with them.
Kemon Spell turns his back on the Ohio State football program
Just a few days after being firmly in the mix to land Spell, he has left Ohio State off his list of schools that he is considering now that he has de-committed from Penn State. After visiting Notre Dame, he will visit Syracuse, Oregon, Michigan, Georgia, and Miami.

Leaving Ohio State off that list stings, especially with how talented Spell is. He's someone who can do it all: run the ball between the tackles, catch the ball out of the backfield, and be used in pass protection. Still, there are other backs that the Buckeyes have their eyes on.
Spell suddenly turning his back on Ohio State makes it seem like the Buckeyes might have locked in some serious interest in another back in the 2027 class. Which running back remains to be seen, but Carlos Locklyn has done a good job with the two running backs who put on a show on Saturday.
Most of Ryan Day's attention is focused on getting some 2026 recruits to change their minds before Signing Day in a couple of months. Losing out on Spell isn't something he will celebrate, though.
