The Ohio State football program is in the middle of one of the most important recruiting weekends of the year. They have several highly-ranked recruits in Columbus for the weekend, and they are hoping to get some commitments once the weekend is over.

Of course, not all of the recruits that the Buckeyes are hoping to land for the 2026 cycle are in town this weekend. There are still some other recruits who are either visiting later in the summer or who are still seriously considering the Ohio State Buckeyes in the next few months.

Unfortunately, there is one player who is no longer considering Ohio State for his college choice. Four-star defensive lineman Carter Luckie has committed to Georgia, taking him off the board for the Buckeyes. He chose Georgia over Ohio State, NC State, and Florida State.

Four-star recruit chooses Georgia over the Ohio State football program

Luckie is a low four-star recruit, so he wasn't a massive priority for the Buckeyes. He hails from Georgia, so him choosing the Bulldogs isn't a huge surprise. In fact, the Buckeyes were expecting that to happen.

Ohio State still has quite a few other defensive linemen that they are trying to land who are more highly-touted than Luckie. Larry Johnson and Matt Patricia are doing their best to get some four-star and five-star defensive linemen to commit to the program before the summer is over.

Ohio State has just 13 commitments for the 2026 class, but that is still good enough to have the third-best class in the country right now. They are still hoping they can win a recruiting national title, but they need to land some of these great prospects before that can happen.

Ryan Day understands what the needs of his team are. He should get a national championship bump to help with recruiting pretty soon, once camp season starts.
