The Ohio State football program has emphasized adding depth up front on both the offensive and defensive line on the recruiting trail. After a couple of classes without adding a lot of linemen, the 2026 recruiting already sports a ton of players on the line of scrimmage.
Now, the Ohio State Buckeyes are using the same philosophy for the 2027 recruiting class. Tyler Bowen has been very busy on the recruiting trail in his first season as the Buckeyes' offensive line coach. In the 2026 class, Ohio State already has five offensive linemen.
For the 2027 class, Bowen is already looking at adding some in-state kids who have massive upsides on the offensive line. In fact, Bowen was able to get a commitment from two offensive linemen on Sunday afternoon who are both from the state of Ohio.
Ohio State football program lands two in-state offensive line recruits
Kellen Wymer, a four-star tackle recruit from Liberty Center, Ohio, has announced his commitment to Ohio State. He will likely move inside when he gets to college, and he is listed as the 10th-best interior lineman in the country in the 2027 recruiting class. His stock is rising fast.
Wymer isn't the only offensive lineman from the state of Ohio to commit to the Buckeyes on Sunday. They also got a commitment from three-star tackle recruit Mason Wilt. Wilt is from St. Clairsville, Ohio. Bowen gets a two-fer right after Ohio State's offensive line dominated Penn State.
Bowen still hasn't been able to land a blue-chip recruit, as they haven't had a five-star recruit on the offensive line since Paris Johnson Jr. Still, Bowen is confident in the recruits that he is bringing in. Not only does he believe in their potential, but he believes in his ability to develop those players.
Ohio State has started to ratchet up their recruiting for the 2027 class over the last few weeks. This is a good start on the offensive line for them as they chase back-to-back national championships on the field this season.
