Over the last few weeks, the Ohio State football team has gotten multiple predictions for recruits. That includes the prediction to land a five-star defensive lineman. Quite frankly, it looks like defensive line coach Larry Johnson has done a really good job on the recruiting trail.
Just a couple of years after some Ohio State fans wanted to have Johnson retire, he looks like he's better than ever. His ability to develop defensive linemen into first-round picks, as well as great collegiate players, clearly still appeals to high school kids.
The Buckeyes are trying to add to their 2027 recruiting class. Over the last few weeks, steam has really started to build for them to land some commitments. Now, it looks like they have landed a prediction to land four-star defensive lineman Kasi Currie.
Ohio State football team projected to bring another defensive lineman to Columbus
Currie is from Sierra Canyon High School out in California, which is the same one that Marcus Fakatou attends. It looks like Johnson just wants to bring both teammates to Columbus. Currie stands at 6'4 and 315 pounds. He is listed as the fifth-best defensive lineman in the country.
The Ohio State Buckeyes have a dozen recruits committed in the 2027 class at this point. They have several predictions for other recruits, however. It looks like the summer is going to really show how many kids Ohio State can land in this class. The end of May is looking like it's going to be the biggest recruiting weekend of the year.
Next weekend, the Buckeyes have several high-level recruits visiting. As far as Currie is concerned, he is one of those recruits scheduled to take an official visit. Other than Ohio State, he is considering Georgia, Texas, and Oregon. Keeping him away from the Ducks would be nice.
Ryan Day is starting to ramp up recruiting efforts for Ohio State
Day is clearly starting to ramp up the recruiting efforts, which is expected. Ohio State had the worst-rated recruiting class under Day last year since his first class. That first class was the transition between him and Urban Meyer, which is the reason why that 2019 class wasn't great.
Adding these defensive prospects is something the Buckeyes need with how their current class is put together. They have many more offensive high school recruits than defensive recruits. Ohio State is putting more effort into its NIL spending, which is why they are getting more action.
It's unclear what the final "salary cap" on NIL money will be. It's still being challenged in court, and it doesn't seem that the government has any idea of what to do. Athletes and colleges are challenging everything in court, so it seems quite confusing. Ohio State is keeping things simple.
With an increase in NIL spending, Ross Bjork deserves some credit. He has allowed Day to pursue some of the best recruits in the country by upping his NIL budget. Fans have to be happy about that change in philosophy.
