The Ohio State football program has lost four receivers this offseason. Carnell Tate decided to declare for the 2026 NFL Draft, in which he will likely be a top-ten pick. Three others have decided to leave for the Transfer Portal, leaving them thin on the outside.
This is the first time that the Ohio State Buckeyes have had to add some depth at the receiver position in quite some time. With Brian Hartline on staff, they were pretty much able to bring in any receiver that they wanted. With him gone, things have now changed.
While the Buckeyes are still looking to add more receivers, they do have their first receiver commit from the portal this year. UTSA receiver Devin McCuin has decided to commit to play for Ohio State next season, making him the fourth player to commit to the Buckeyes from the portal.
The Ohio State football team adds Devin McCuin from the Transfer Portal
McCuin has played the first three seasons of his collegiate career with UTSA. Over the course of those three seasons, McCuin caught 18 touchdown passes, to go along with 1,696. Adding him to the room will give the Buckeyes some much-needed depth on the outside.
The Buckeyes are still going to rely on Jeremiah Smith and Brandon Inniss as the two main contributors. True freshman receiver Chris Henry Jr. will also be counted on to help Ohio State's offense be more productive next season. McCuin is a solid player.
McCuin isn't the top receiver available in the portal, but he also might not be the only one that Ohio State ends up landing. They have a few other players that they are looking to bring in. Ryan Day needs to bring in more help for Julian Sayin as he continues to develop as a quarterback.
Ohio State will continue to look at multiple players from the portal in the next week until the portal closes.
