The early signing period is only a month away, so here is an update on Ohio State's 2025 recruiting class.

The Ohio State football program, under Urban Meyer and now Ryan Day, has been one of the best programs in the country at recruiting elite talent. They have constantly pulled players from all over the country. This is especially true in tough areas, such as Florida, Georgia, California, and Texas, where recruiting is difficult. Ohio State has frequently won plenty of these recruiting battles over the years.

The Ohio State 2025 class is shaping up to be one of the better classes in the nation again. Currently, they have the second-best class in the nation. They currently have 26 prospects committed. Of those 26 prospects, they have three five-star prospects and 20 four-star prospects. This is an impressive haul for Ohio State. The early signing period is Wednesday, December 4th. There is a second signing period, but most of the top prospects will sign during this initial window.

Areas of strength for the 2025 class

Under Ryan Day, Ohio State has recruited the quarterback position better than most College Football teams. The 2025 class is no different, as they have five-star quarterback Tavien St. Clair already committed. St. Clair is a fascinating prospect. He is from a small town in Ohio called Bellefontaine.

Initially, he was a three-star prospect, but once he got on Ohio State's radar and started to attend national camps like the Elite 11, his recruitment skyrocketed. St. Clair is a talented prospect for Ohio State and should have a chance to eventually play for Ohio State.

The other strength of this recruiting class is the offensive skill positions. Ohio State has four-star running back Bo Jackson committed to this class, along with three-star running back Isaiah West. Both running backs have legit skills and should help provide depth next season for the running back room that should lose two running backs to the NFL.

Ohio State continues to recruit at the wide receiver position under Brian Hartline at a high level. In this class, they currently have four commitments from wide receivers. The highlight of the class is Quincy Porter, a four-star wide receiver from New Jersey, but the other three receivers are talented as well.

The other area of strength in this class is the defensive backs. They currently have two cornerbacks, and two safeties committed to the class. The headliner is Devin Sanchez a five-star cornerback from Houston. He has a chance to be a special player for the Buckeyes. Delane Faheem is a four-star safety from Maryland. I think he is an underrated player in the class. Ohio State continues to recruit well at defensive back position.

Encouraging Progress from the defensive line

Defensive line recruitment has been up and down in the last few years. Larry Johnson is a legend, and he is considered one of the best defensive line coaches in America, but his recruiting has been up and down because of lots of questions over whether he will retire.

In this class, he currently has five defensive line commitments. Zion Mathis and Zion Grady are the headliners at Edge positions. Both players are talented edge players that could eventually develop into top-flight pass rushers. Mathis is from Pennsylvania and Grady is from Alabama. Both are four-star prospects.

The interior defensive line prospects also have a ton of potential. Maxwell Roy from Pennsylvania and London Merritt from IMG Academy in Florida are both good players. This is a good group for Larry Johnson.

The Ohio State football team still can't recruit on the offensive line

No way to spin it offensive line recruiting has been subpar for Ohio State. Offensive line coach Justin Frye has struggled in getting top prospects to commit to Ohio State. This year has been particularly bad. They currently only have one offensive tackle prospect committed.

Carter Lowe of Toledo, Ohio, is a four-star prospect. He is a good player, but they need more than just him committed at offensive tackle. Ohio State also has two interior offensive linemen committed, but they have a glaring hole at offensive tackle in this class. Justin Frye seems like a good position coach at developing players, but as a recruiter, he is not pulling his weight.

Ohio State's recruiting class is one of the best in the country. They have 26 commitments and probably have room for a few more prospects. Offensive line recruitment is a concern, but the rest of the class is excellent.
