Over the last few months, the Ohio State football program has started looking at other quarterbacks in the 2027 recruiting class. Ryan Day reportedly met with Nebraska commit Trae Taylor. They offered a couple of other guys, as well. They did all of this despite already having a quarterback committed for the class.
Brady Edmunds has been committed to the Ohio State Buckeyes for a year and a half now. He committed way back in December of 2024. At that point, it seemed like Day had his quarterback for the class. Now, things are very much in flux with his future.
Edmunds decided to take an official visit to UCLA. Now, it seems like the Buckeyes have a decision to make about whether they fully want him or not. It sounds like Edmunds might make the decision for them relatively soon now that the Bruins have shown some real interest in him.
Brady Edmunds reportedly will make a decision on Ohio State soon
This past weekend, Edmunds took his official visit to Columbus. Coming off that visit, it is now being reported by Adam Gorney of Rivals that Edmunds is set to make a decision about his future soon. That would determine how aggressive Ohio State gets pursuing other quarterbacks in this class.
If the Buckeyes do go after another QB with some vigor, then it's pretty clear that Edmunds is as good as gone. Day is clearly on the fence about keeping Edmunds, so that may not be the worst thing in the world. However, there is a shot they are left without a QB in this class.
If that were to happen, Day would likely hit the Transfer Portal hard to get a quarterback to help with depth. Ohio State will have either Julian Sayin or Tavien St. Clair as the starting quarterback next season. St. Clair played well in the Spring Game and looks ready to be a starter.
Ohio State should end up having a strong recruiting class
The Buckeyes should end up having a strong recruiting class for this cycle. Ohio State has several predictions to land some five-star recruits in the class. They are still waiting on official commitments from Marcus Fakatou and David Gabriel Georges, both of whom should be favored to pick Ohio State.
There is a chance that they will also get a commitment from Monshun Sales. Landing all three five-star recruits would be a fantastic way for the 2027 class to be wrapped up. Ryan Day doesn't have the best class ranking, but it is still very early in the class to be counting that.
If Day is able to get another quarterback before Edmunds makes up his mind, then he is as good as gone. Edmunds clearly wants to feel wanted, and it's hard to blame him for that. Ohio State is the best at recruiting and developing quarterbacks, so that gives him an advantage.
Of course, this saga could always take a turn even later, which seems to always happen with recruiting.
