This weekend could be the biggest recruiting weekend of the year for the Ohio State football program. They have five recruits coming in this weekend, with three being a huge priority for them to land. So far, the Buckeyes have just 13 recruits in the 2027 recruiting class.

Yet, the Ohio State Buckeyes are not panicking about the small number of recruits that they have in this class so far. They have a lot of visits still to go this summer. Those summer visits start this weekend with those five prospects. One of the recruits coming in is five-star recruit Benny Easter Jr.

Easter Jr. is a Texas Tech commit at the moment. He committed to Tech back in November, so he has pledged his allegiance for quite a while. Yet, he is still taking this visit to Columbus. Now it sounds like Ohio State is making a massive push to flip him ahead of his planned visit.

Ohio State is pushing to flip five-star recruit Benny Easter Jr.

According to Rivals, Ohio State is now neck-and-neck with Tech for Easter Jr. Easter Jr. stands at six feet tall and 200 pounds, so he is stout. He's someone that the Buckeyes would like to bring in and use in Arthur Smith's new offense. He is someone who can make tough catches, and that's what Ohio State is always looking for.

With other five-star recruits also visiting, this could be a perfect time for the Buckeyes to sway his commitment. Over the last few years, Ohio State has been the premier program in the country in terms of recruiting and developing wide receivers.

Now that Brian Hartline is in South Florida, it's going to be up to Cortez Hankton to prove that Ohio State can still develop receivers at an elite level. Easter Jr. is going to be getting a heck of a sales pitch this weekend, so that he can do just that.

Ohio State football recruiting is just beginning

This is really the start of some aggressive recruiting from the Buckeyes. They are about to head into a period of official visits coming fast and furious for the program. The start of camp season is also a good time to get kids on campus, and that will be happening in June and July.

Ohio State is going to be very active on the recruiting trail over the next few months. Expect the class to grow pretty quickly, and it would be surprising if they didn't come out of this weekend. It seems like they are poised to add some great talent, although a lot of these recruits are making their first of many visits.

That is the only reason why the Buckeyes might not be able to land a commitment. One of the recruits visiting, Prince Goldsby, already committed earlier in the week. That means that the Buckeyes will be leaning on him to help the coaching staff convince the other recruits there to commit before getting out of Columbus.
