Ohio State football player wins Rimington award despite injury
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State football team has had a pretty darn good year. The Buckeyes have won two top-five games. Unfortunately, they have lost two great offensive linemen along the way. Josh Simmons was lost to a leg injury against Oregon. Seth McLaughlin was lost to a torn Achilles during practice.
Despite McLaughlin losing the rest of his season to an injury, he clearly was still one of the best offensive linemen in the country. Losing him was arguably more damaging than losing Simmons. The Ohio State Buckeyes still haven't found a suitable replacement at center.
McLaughlin proved that he was an excellent get from the transfer portal. In fact, he proved to be the best center in the country. He was honored as the best center in the country by winning the Rimington Award. He was given that honor on Thursday night.
Ohio State football player Seth McLaughlin wins the Rimington
McLaughlin was more than just the starting center for the Buckeyes. He was one of the best leaders that the team had. Even now, as he gets around on a scooter, he is still leading from the sidelines. McLaughlin was a coach out there on the field and continues to do that.
With McLaughlin winning the award, he is the fourth Buckeye to win the award in Ohio State football history. It's a shame that McLaughlin won't be able to be out there for Ohio State's first-round matchup against Tennessee. Instead, they'll have to roll with someone else.
McLaughlin ended up being one of the best adds from the transfer portal that Ohio State has had since the portal became a thing. Ohio State will look in the portal for even more offensive linemen. We'll see how successful they are in doing so. I doubt they'll get as good of a player as him.
